How to play Klondike Solitaire
Your goal is to move all 52 cards into the four foundations at the top right, one for each suit. Each foundation begins with an ace and builds upward to the king.
Build down, alternate colors
The seven columns are called the tableau. Place a card on one that is exactly one rank higher and the opposite color: a red six can go on a black seven. You can move an entire correctly ordered face-up sequence together.
Only a king, or a sequence beginning with a king, can fill an empty column. When you uncover a face-down card, it turns over automatically.
Draw from the stock
Tap the deck at the upper left to reveal cards. Draw 1 reveals one card at a time; Draw 3 reveals up to three, with only the top card available. After the stock runs out, tap its empty space to recycle the waste. This version allows unlimited passes.
Use the foundations thoughtfully
You may move the top foundation card back to the tableau when that helps rearrange a sequence. Auto-finish becomes available once the stock and waste are empty and every tableau card is face up.
Three tips for a better game
- Look for moves that uncover hidden cards, especially in longer columns.
- Before opening an empty column, check whether you have a king ready to use it.
- Use undo to compare possibilities. Hints suggest legal moves; they do not guarantee a winning deal.
Can every deal be won?
No. Deals are randomly shuffled, and some have no solution. Replay keeps the same starting layout, while New deal reshuffles all 52 cards.
